KAGNAR SOM - PRINCIPAL ATTORNEY
Attorney Kagnar “Ganya” Som has experience representing victims injured as a result of medical negligence, maritime injury, premise liability, motor vehicle and bicycle accidents. Kagnar is a strong advocate for victim’s rights because she understands how overwhelming the legal system is to victims and their families following a personal injury accident. This compassion emerged from personal experience. Born in Cambodia, Kagnar escaped the terror of the Khmer Rouge, immigrating to the US in 1981.
As an undergraduate at the University of Washington, Kagnar interned with U.S. Senator Patty Murray, working with the Senator’s staff in passage of the Victim’s Rights Bill. It was during this effort that Kagnar recognized her calling to be an attorney that advocates and empowers victims in their quest for justice. Kagnar received her juris doctorate from Seattle University School of Law. Prior to law school, Kagnar worked at the Washington State Bar Association, assisting in developing the first Committee for Diversity.
Kagnar is also dedicated to reducing cultural and linguistic barriers faced by members of the Asian communities in their efforts to participate in the legal system. She volunteers at the Asian Counseling and Referral Services, providing pro bono legal counseling to the low income Asian community.
Kagnar is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, and the Asian Bar Association of Washington, and she is an eagle member of the Washington State Association for Justice (WSAJ). She also promotes diversity in the legal profession as a member of the WSAJ Diversity Committee.
Kagnar is licensed to practice in Washington State and in federal court in the U.S. District Court Western District of Washington.
